Costa Calida

The Costa Calida,
literally meaning 'the warm coast' stretches some 250km from the
Mediterranean beaches of Aguilas to the boundaries of Alicante,
and takes in Murcia, the ninth largest of Spain's autonomous communities.
Here the semi-arid subtropical climate offers average annual temperatures
of 18 degrees and Spain's mildest winters. No wonder the The World
Health Organisation says the area has one of the healthiest climates
in the world.
This unspoilt
coastal region stretches from alongside Alicante province in the
north almost reaching the border of Almeria in the south. And its
not only the climate that's warm! The Murcia region in particular,
with a new international airport and high speed railway under construction,
a recently opened motorway from Alicante to Murcia and a local government
committed to delivering growth to the region, now has all the ingredients

One of the most
famous assets of this coastline is Mar Menor, with over 170km2 of
shallow water, Europe's largest salt water lagoon offers breathtaking
colours at anytime of the year. Along this 22km strip of enclosed

shallow crystal clear waters and enchanting old seaside pueblos.

Aguilas
Aguilas, an
old Roman fishing port. Largely unspoilt by the same recent development
to affect other areas, Aguilas retains much of its character and
is steeped in its own history. Hornillo Wharf, where iron was loaded
for shipping still stands, a reminder that this was once a 19th
century mining town. In the centre of Aguilas you will find the
lovely gardens in the Plaza Espana, the 19th century Town Hall and
the impressive church of San Jose. High above the old quarter stands
the castle of San Juan de Aguilas, built in 1579. At the foot of
the castle is the harbour and lighthouse. With excellent beaches
and secluded coves on either side of the town Aguilas, this area
offers excellent water sports, including some of the best scuba
diving on offer along the coast.

La Manga
Nestling between
Mar Menor and the Mediterranean is La Manga (the sleeve), a narrow
strip of land made up of volcanic reefs, dunes and white sandy beaches.
Since its discovery in the '60s, La Manga has been developed as

Mar Menor
Mar Menor, or

San Cayatano
