Andalucian fishing village Estepona has begun to move into the tourist industry yet still preserves its pueblo charm and character. Estepona or the 'old town', as it is known, has a population of 37,000 and is located 25km from Marbella and just within an hour of Malaga. Estepona is sheltered on its northern side by the Sierra Bermeja mountains which reach 1,449m at their highest point, Los Reales.

The town's present renaissance as a leisure centre, ensures Estepona a prosperous future. Estepona has become a fashionable place for both foreign and Northern Spanish residents to acquire property and therefore there is no shortage in demand for Estepona property for sale. Numerous street cafes and tapas bars still serve traditional Spanish delicacies and the steep, cobbled, narrow streets seem more suited to horses than cars. With no shortage of beaches, Estepona also has a wonderful, quiet cove Playa de Cristo, which is ideal for small children because of its shallow, safe waters. The most popular and central beach, La Rada, is long and sandy and is backed by a modern sea front promenade for the entire length (2.6km). The beaches are very clean and well cared for (boasting the Blue Flag award) and all have Chiringuitos (beach bars).

The Marina is located at the west end of La Rada beach and is a very pleasant place for a stroll and there are some magnificent boats moored here. There are also a wide variety of excellent bars and restaurants, open both during the day and in the evening while younger revellers can enjoy the late night disco bars. There is also a popular tourist market here on a Sunday morning.

The climate of the Estepona area is a big attraction for it has an average annual temperature of 18°C. With perfect weather almost all year round, Estepona is the place for nearly every kind of sport and outdoor activity. Anything from tennis to watersports is on offer and ofcourse golf is a major attraction. There are 8 courses in this area alone out of over 40 on the Costa del Sol and Estepona Golf club is located only a few km west of the town.

15 km inland you'll find the picture postcard village of Casares. The scenery is picturesque and the views of Casares village with its medieval fortress are nothing less than spectacular.
