Welcome to Fethiye, the land of lights, where the torrent of civilizations created in the time tunnel and gliding from inaccessible summits of wild Taurus Mountains meet to the foamy dark blue water of Mediterranean.

Known as Telmessos during the Classical Era, Fethiye is the most important city on Carya border in the west of Lycia as one of the ancient Anatolian civilization. Its foundation goes back to 4 B.C. It is told that the name of town comes from Telmessos, son of mythological god Apollo. The city was occupied by Persians, Hellens under the Command of Alexander the Great and Romans and later on annexed to Ottoman territories. It was then called MEGRI meaning distant city during that era. The city was given the name of Fethiye to honor the the memory of Mr. Fethi, an air force pilot who died during a test flight. The tombs of kings carved in rocks on eastern slope of the city became the symbol of Fethiye. Those are memorial mausoleums of Lycians and Roman era of Lycia. Furthermore, there are several burials caskets of the same era in various places of the city. The castle rising high in the south is supposed to belong Saint John's chevaliers. Visible ruins bear the footprints of Middle Ages.

Fethiye was once a small fishing town and has plenty to offer everyone. There is a labyrinth of shops to choose from and you can stroll along the harbour passing the many boats and yachts with the snow capped mountains as the backdrop. If history is your thing there are many sites to visit all within easy walking distance. Work up an appetite and dine on the catch of the day or at one of the many international restaurants on offer and then visit the local market and barter with the locals for their wares.

The resort is very flat, so it is easy to get around. Calis has its own water park too. Parts of the beach are also popular with the local turtle population, who come to lay their eggs in the sand. Calis also boasts two very natural attractions - a cooling breeze, perfect for when the local temperatures soar in the summer months, and the other one is what Calis is most famous for - some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.
