The beaches at La Cala de Mijas have been awarded the Blue Flag as among the best in the province and are geared to provide action: jet skis, water skiing and parasending are all available. La Cala de Mijas is one of the original Costa del Sol fishing villages and with its Moorish tower now restored, is very popular with many good restaurants, shops and beach front bars. There are also an abundance of good quality sports and recreation facilities both in and around La Cala de Mijas. Horse riding in the hills behind La Cala is a must if you enjoy this activity but if your interest in horses is strictly as a spectator, then the Hippodrome may well be for you. Recently built, the Hipodromo del Costa del Sol is just on the outskirts of La Cala and makes for a great family night out. The new racetrack is one of the best in Spain. Apart from traditional horse racing, there is live music on Friday and Saturday nights.
